Empowering Women, Protecting Rights, and Building Violence-Free Communities
Integrated Development Organization (IDO), under the Empowering Poor Fisher-folk Women (EPFFW) Project of the EWCSA programme supported by Oxfam Bangladesh, implemented a series of activities during the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence campaign from 25 November to 10 December 2024 in Paikgacha and Koyra Upazilas of Khulna. The project aims to empower 1,000 fisher-folk community women by strengthening their rights, leadership capacity, and collective action

Raising Awareness Through Community Action
As part of the campaign, IDO organized a range of awareness and advocacy activities, including:
- Community awareness sessions on prevention of gender-based violence
- Rally and discussion sessions
- Human Rights Day activities
- Candle-lighting demonstrations
- Placard demonstrations
- Human chains
- Discussions with community women and group leaders
These activities brought together community members, women, youth, students, local leaders, government officials, and other stakeholders to promote gender equality, women’s rights, and collective action against GBV.
Creating a Stronger Voice Against GBV
On 9 December 2024, IDO organized a rally and discussion session at the Upazila Parishad Hall Room in Paikgacha, focusing on the protection of women from gender-based violence. Government officials, community members, students, local elites, and IDO representatives participated in the event.
On 10 December 2024, Human Rights Day was observed through another rally and discussion session at Town High School, Paikgacha. The event focused on protecting people from gender-based violence and restoring human rights for all.
Community sessions, candle-lighting demonstrations, placard activities, and human chains further strengthened public awareness and encouraged young people and community members to take action against gender-based violence.

Through these activities, participating women and stakeholders:

✓ Developed greater awareness of gender responsiveness and gender mainstreaming
✓ Improved understanding of how communities can respond to and prevent GBV
